What an amazing year Oregon Optometry has had in the Legislature!

Nicole Rush, ODBy Nicole Rush, OD

Advocacy Director

We successfully passed a bill to allow us to continue using Hydrocodone combination medications… Contact the DEA to update your license to include Schedule II….

We successfully defeated 1-800 Contacts when they wanted to undercut the prices that the rest of the nation has agreed to charge for certain Contact Lenses….  Look up UPP for more info…

NOW… we have successfully passed a bill in the Senate Health Care Committee HB2530B (soon to be voted on the floor) to STOP insurance companies from:

#1. Forcing us to give patients discounts on Non-Covered Services,

#2.  Forcing us to sign up on an insurance plan that we don’t want to accept, just to be able to accept a different plan that we do want to accept.  We will have the choice to do what works best in each of our individual practices.

#3.  They won’t be able to force us to send our ophthalmic lens jobs out of state to a different lab.  We will be able to use our own in-house labs, or a lab in Oregon of our choice.

If you have a chance to talk to your Senator or Representative, please thank them for all they do for Optometry, because we don’t intend to stop here!  We have an amazing Advocacy Team moving forward to make Oregon Optometry among the best and most progressive in the nation.  Your support, communications with Legislators, and OOPAC dollars are so crucial to our efforts.  Thanks to everyone who has supported us this year!!
